This is the ULTIMATE SLU Experience!

Announcing an historic and privileged opportunity for 2008 attendees of SLU 401. When we say SLU Exclusive, we mean it! As you probably are aware, we received an overwhelming number of emails asking us to adjust the 2008 date for 401. Therefore, we have quickly tried to rearrange all hotels, airfare, and - oh so carefully, to ask for a change of date with the King of Jordan who has been heavily involved with the Annapolis Peace Conference and elections.

It was definitely worth the wait. Check out just some of the things we have planned:

SLU 401 - 2008: Experience the Scripture as you can only imagine.

  • Track One: Behind the scenes of Israel and Jordan.
  • Track Two: Portraits of Biblical Leadership - We will study in depth the lives of Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Deborah, David, the Disciples, and the leadership teaching and model of Jesus.
  • Track Three: Current Events up Close and Personal - Be a part of the SLU initiatives in Amman and Nazareth as we extend the hand of peace, seek to understand, and exchange heartfelt discussions about our faith.

The People you will meet...

  • The first person that we invited was King Abdullah II of Jordan, who is one of the most articulate and passionate advocates for peace in the Middle East for all people.
  • Arab students from Jordan and Nazareth
  • 2 Members of the Israeli Parliament
  • Chris Mitchell, CBN Middle East Bureau Chief
  • Dr. Israel Borovich, Chairman of the Board, EL AL Airlines
  • Dr. Gary Frazier, Author and Featured Speaker at the Left Behind Conferences with Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins
  • David Ferguson, (D. Phil, Oxford University), Noted Author and Founder of the Great Commandment Network

The Places you will go in Jordan...

  • Retrace the steps of the Israelites when they camped on the east side of the Jordan. Remember SLU 101 - Focused, Faithful, Finisher!
  • View the Promised Land from Mt. Nebo as Moses did
  • Tour the Roman city of Jerash and witness reenactment of Roman soldiers and gladiators
  • Be baptized in the Jordan at traditional baptismal site of Jesus
  • See the ruins of ancient Jericho
  • Explore the ancient city of Petra by horseback
  • Cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land

The Places you will go in Israel...

  • Visit the Cave in Bethlehem where Jesus was born
  • Stroll through Shepherd's Field as we study the life of David
  • Walk in the footsteps of Jesus and to see the sights and sounds that you've heard of and imagined all of your life. Nazareth, Galilee, The Valley of Armageddon, Jerusalem, the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, Calvary
  • Celebrate the Lord's Supper at the empty Garden Tomb.
  • Walk the Ancient Jerusalem wall
  • Wade through Hezekiah's tunnel and visit a Bedouin tent
  • Walk down Via Dolorosa, "The Way of the Cross" as Jesus did
  • Be amazed at Megiddo, the site of the earth's last battle at Armageddon
  • Sail on the Sea of Galilee and have Peter's fish for lunch
  • Experience the beauty of the Mount of Beatitudes

Of course you expect to visit the places with SLU that will absolutely change your life and your understanding of history, but I suggest to you there is so much more to this trip. Isn't it remarkable that a national leader would invest personally into the young leaders of their country? If his schedule allows, H. M. King Abdullah II will be addressing our SLU students as well as the one hundred Jordanian students in "The East-West Initiatives Student Leadership Forum." The criteria for Jordanian students to attend include: exemplifying leadership qualities, having an interest in being a world citizen, exhibiting potential to be a respectful ambassador for Jordan, and a desire to improve the world around them.

Our time in Jordan will allow you to see the world through the eyes of Jordanian students and hopefully allow them to see the world through our eyes. I am absolutely convinced that by this incredible time together we can begin to be ambassadors for peace and healing in your lifetime. We will also conduct an abbreviated SLU 101 in Nazareth where you will have the opportunity to share with Israeli and Arab students.

Experience within the SLU Experience

The East-West Initiatives Student Leadership Forum

SLU has been extended a once in a life time opportunity. Key members of the Jordan business, educational, and religious community along with the full support of his royal majesty King Abdullah II have launched the Forum after hearing first hand testimonials from many of the one hundred and twenty-five Palestinian students and educators who participated in our very first SLU Middle East held in Jericho of March 2007. This was conducted in Jericho when Brent Crowe and Dr. Jay and Dr. David Ferguson taught and introduction to leadership in the Ancient City. The result was that the participating schools choose 26 educators and students to come and represent them at SLU 101 and SLU 201 last summer. Not only were incredible friendships forged and huge understanding gained, but this proved to a be a life changing experience for the American students involved as well as the Palestinian students.

The following is a summary of what our Jordanian hosts have submitted to SLU for our inaugural three day forum. Dr. Jay will be formally responding after his trip in January. We will certainly send you the final summary of what we will be doing each day when he returns at the end of January. As you read this proposed schedule, it will give you some idea into what the Jordanian students are being prepared for. Remember that after Dr. Jay finalizes this three day experience with the Jordanians, we then visit the key Biblical sites in Jordan and then cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land.
