President, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
Daniel L. Akin (born January 2, 1957) is the current president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary as of January 2004. Before coming to Southeastern, Akin served as the Senior Vice President for Academic Administration at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Akin has a real heart for missions that has spanned the last three decades. He has served on the mission field in Papago Indians, Sells, AZ, Australia (Partnership Missions: Texas Baptists), Thailand, Paraguay, India, Kenya, Asia, Middle East, and Central Asia. He is a respected theologian, professor, preacher, and evangelical leader. Dr. Akin, also a prolific author, has authored over 24 books and numerous journal articles. Some of his most recent books include God on Sex, Five Who Changed the World, and Vibrant Church: Becoming a Healthy Church in the 21st Century. He is a 1980 graduate of Criswell College with a B.A. in Biblical Studies, a 1983 graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity, and a 1989 graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington with a Doctor of Philosophy in Humanities. Akin is married to Charlotte, and they have four boys: Nathan, Jonathan, Paul, and Timothy. They also have three daughters-in-law and three grandchildren. |
